By now many of you have heard the new of Ron Simpson’s passing. It’s a sad day.
My husband and I have known Ron for many years. He and my husband worked together in real estate and we were friends socially. Our dogs even went to dog school together.
While I have lots of smart friends I classified Ron officially as my ‘super-smart’ friend. He was a renaissance type of guy who could talk military stuff, opera, in German and just as easily talk about dogs.
He was a master at trivia and I’ll admit we often ‘used’ his smarts to stack trivia games in our favor, but he enjoyed it.
Ron also gave of his time and smarts to Townie Life Magazine, graciously copy-editing every article. My writing was better for it.
If you did not know Ron he was a major SouthShore community supporter and champion. He worked tirelessly with the SouthShore Chamber of Commerce, attending every activity and volunteering at every event possible. He knew everybody and everybody seemed to know him. His last days in hospice were crowded with all of his friends coming to visit.
I think Melanie Rimes, Executive Director of the SouthShore Chamber of Commerce, said it best in a recent communication to SouthShore Chamber members (please make special note of the event taking place Wednesday evening at the Firehouse Cultural Center in Ron’s honor)….
“Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same.”
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our very dear friend, Mr. Ron Simpson, passed away. Ron was truly the biggest Ambassador to the entire SouthShore area and loved our chamber and the people in this community to the fullest! He had the kindest heart and now it’s time for us to pay our respects and celebrate everything Ron meant to us!
Please join us this Wednesday, July 19th starting at 5:30pm for a “CELEBRATION OF RON’S LIFE IN SOUTHSHORE”. We will host this event at one of his favorite spots, The Firehouse Cultural Center in Ruskin. We will have his favorite band, La Lucha there to help us create the “Ron approved” ambiance! Food and beverages will be provided as well. Ron would want us to have a lovely evening, laughing and visiting with one another- so that is exactly what we will do!
Also, please keep Ron’s wife, Phyllis and the rest of his family in your prayers during this time. This is a wonderful way for us to show them how much Ron impacted our community and how we are forever grateful!
If you would like to make a donation in Ron’s name- you can write a check to C.A.R.E. (Critter Adoption & Rescue Effort, Inc)- one of Ron’s most favorite charities! You can bring your check Wednesday, drop it by the chamber or mail directly to CARE Inc. 1528 27th St SE Ruskin, Fl 33570
Farewell, Ron. You will be missed.
