About K.K. Allen
K.K. (K.K. is a nickname that set in during college) has been writing novels since she was a child, but it was her move to Florida in 2008, as a young adult, that prompted her to take her craft more seriously.
“The Summer Solstice Enchanted was the first novel I really took seriously and wanted to share with others,” K.K. says. “I fell in love with the story.”
Once the book was written a friend encouraged K.K. to publish it.
“”Another motivation to publish was my son,” K.K. reflects. “I really wanted to show him that you can conquer your fears by going after your dreams.
Today, the bestselling The Summer Solstice Enchanted is part of the Summer Solstice trilogy which includes The Summer Solstice Enchanted, The Equinox, and The Descendants. All three stories are set in Apollo Beach, and there’s more to come!
The Summer Solstice Enchanted
“When I started writing The Summer Solstice Enchanted it was a contemporary romance,” says K.K. “but I couldn’t get the story the way I wanted it. I took to research and found myself in the Greek Mythology section of the local Barnes and Noble. The phenomenon of the summer solstice came up and I was stuck on it, and suddenly wanted to create magic out of the seasons. That’s as much as I’ll say to not spoil the story, but I was excited when the ideas started clicking, says K.K.”
The Summer Solstice Enchanted, as well as all books in the trilogy, was written for Young Adults and Teens. Each of the books is a ‘clean read’. Teens read them and teachers recommend them.
Apollo Beach – The Perfect Setting
K.K. Allen lives in Orlando, but chose Apollo Beach for the setting of her trilogy.
“I was trying to find a beach town,” K.K. says. “Apollo Beach was the obvious choice. It worked perfectly with my Greek mythology component.”
K.K. also admits to falling in love with the Apollo Beach TECO stacks (Yeah! Another fan of the stacks!), although they are not called the TECO stacks in her novel.
“The TECO stacks worked with the messages I wanted to convey in the trilogy: energy sourcing and caring for the environment,” she says.
K.K. has also had a life-long love of the beach and manatees – another draw to Apollo Beach.
The Summer Solstice trilogy has gotten a lot of attention from schools. K.K. feels it’s the research she puts into the books and the messages she weaves into them.
“I don’t want to be preachy, but I did think it’s important to have positive messages for young adults,” K.K. says.
